Peter C. Hagan has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry, including holding senior management positions on four continents.
As the chairman and chief executive officer of Merrill Lynch’s U.S. banks, Mr. Hagan led the businesses in their growth from $5 billion to over $85 billion in size , and their profitability from break-even to over $1 billion per year. Under his management, the banks developed and implemented the policies and procedures needed by a major institution, built the necessary control and audit infrastructure, established positive relationships with regulators, and established profitable lines of business.
Following his retirement from Merrill Lynch, Mr. Hagan joined the Aozora Bank (previously the Nippon Credit Bank) as vice chairman, where his responsibilities included managing fund investments, treasury, and derivatives together with oversight of the bank’s retail activities.
Mr. Hagan's areas of expertise also include credit, lending (corporate, retail, margin, mortgage, and small business), deposit taking, treasury, derivatives, prime brokerage, and underwriting.
Prior to his bank management responsibilities, Mr. Hagan was the chief credit officer for Merrill Lynch’s wholesale and international activities.
