Julie Nielsen specializes in providing forensic investigation and dispute resolution services to health care and life sciences organizations and their legal counsel. Her more than 15 years of consulting experience span a variety of payors, providers, and manufacturers, including hospitals, physicians, clinical laboratories, pharmacies, managed care organizations, health plans, third-party administrators, pharmacy benefit managers, and pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.

Ms. Nielsen primarily advises clients and their counsel with addressing liability and economic damages issues related to health care and life sciences investigations, litigation, and disputes, including conducting internal investigations; responding to and addressing external investigations; providing damages and industry-specific litigation support, including complex data analysis; analyzing class certification issues; quantifying the economic impact of noncompliance with contractual obligations and government regulations; assessing current and historic billing and claims processing operations; and performing fraud risk assessments.

The nature of the engagements with which Ms. Nielsen has been involved has required her to develop an understanding and knowledge of complex health care and life sciences billing, utilization, payment, and other data systems utilized by the various parties in the health care transaction chain. She has identified areas where a lack of system controls or oversight can lead to allegations of violations of the False Claims Act, Anti-kickback Statute, and other regulatory and contractual requirements. She advises clients regarding timely, accurate, creative, flexible, and supportable solutions to these areas of weakness to help resolve regulatory issues, business disputes, and other business challenges.
