Industry Expertise
David Smith holds a Ph.D. in finance and is the C. Coleman McGehee Research Associate Professor of Banking and Commerce at the University of Virginia and director of the McIntire Center for Financial Innovation. He is an expert on matters related to financial valuation, financial contracting, banking, and corporate bankruptcy. He has presented his research at universities and conferences around the world and published in leading academic journals. He has been engaged as a testifying and consulting expert on matters related to corporate and asset valuation.
Dr. Smith's current research focuses on corporate restructuring, the trading and ownership of distressed debt claims, and the influence of loan covenants on corporate behavior and performance. He teaches corporate valuation and finance at the undergraduate level and corporate restructuring at the graduate level. Prior to joining the University of Virginia, he was an economist in the International Finance Division of the Federal Reserve Board.
